HOW TO REGISTER
FOR THE BREEDERS FUND

Virginia-bred Horses
To register a Virginia-bred horse, an applicant must submit to the VTA by the registration deadline (see below) the following:
  1. A completed and signed application form for each horse to be registered.
  2. A check payable to the Virginia Breeders Fund in full payment for registration fees in accordance with the current fee schedule (see below).
Once the registration process is completed, an official Virginia-bred certificate will be mailed to the applicant for attachment to the horse's Jockey Club papers. Registration is valid for the life of the horse.

Important: A Virginia-bred must be registered prior to running any race which is part of the Virginia Breeders Fund's programs.
Virginia Stallions
Stallion owners must submit to the VTA by the registration deadline (see below) the following:
  1. A completed and signed stallion application form for each stallion to be registered.
  2. A copy of the stallion's Jockey Club papers.
  3. A check payable to the Virginia Breeders Fund in full payment for the registration fee in accordance with the current fee schedule (see below).
Annual registration makes a Virginia stallion eligible to receive awards based on the performance of the resulting foal crop from the breeding season in which the stallion is registered. (For example: Virginia stallions registered in 2007 are eligible for awards based on the performance of their 2008 foal crop.)

At the end of the breeding season, a copy of the Jockey Club list of mares bred must be submitted.

Important: Stallions MUST register ANNUALLY with the Virginia Breeders Fund.

ATTENTION:
Any individual or entity winning a Virginia Breeders Fund Award must submit a W-9 form before a check can be sent
