Paradise Creek

Paradise Creek ranks second on the list of Virginia-bred millionaires
with total earnings of $3,378,189. Paradise Creek finished in the money 23
times in 25 starts. His stakes career started with a fourth in the Grade 1
Hopeful at two and ended with a narrow loss by a nose in the Grade 1
Japan Cup at five.
In between, Paradise Creek won the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby at three,
and the Grade 2 Early Times Classic, the Grade 1 Manhattan Stakes, the
Grade 1 Washington D.C. International and the Grade 1 Arlington Million
as a five-year-old. Paradise Creek set course records at Belmont and Gulfstream.

Keswick Stables

Keswick Stables has bred 48 stakes winners including the millionaires
Eishin Guymon, Simply Majestic, Alwuhush and Sabin as well as the Grade/
Group 1 winners Arctic Tern, Chain Bracelet, Eclipse Award winner Johnny
D., Ashayer and Husband. Virginia-bred champions include Crown Silver,
C’est L’Amour, Semoran (twice), and three category 2002 champion Bop.
Group 1 winner Arctic Tern has gone on to sire 44 stakes winners and
earners of over $20 million including a champion and the G1 winner and
successful sire Bering (GB). Alwuhush has sired three champions and 16
stakes winners with earnings in excess of $11 million. Millionaire Simply
Majestic has sired earners of over $5 million including champion Tintorera.
In addition, Keswick has frequently won Virginia's Howell E. Jackson
Broodmare Award. Beaming Bride, the dam of Simply Majestic, Alwuhush,
Husband and Pia Bride, leads the way with two honors. Highland Fling,
L?Amour Toujours and Meadow Mist have also won the award.
A fixture at the Saratoga yearling sale, Keswick set a world record for a
filly in 1962 when Golden Gorse (by Swaps, out of Auld Alliance) brought
an $82,000 final bid. In 1982, Keswick sold Group 3 stakes winner Kanz, a
daughter of The Minstrel, out of Treasure Chest for $2.1 million and in 1984
a colt by Roberto, out of Gurkhas Band for $4 million. In addition,
Keswick, in partnership with Daniel G. Van Clief Sr.'s Nydrie Stud, bred
Northern Dancer's dam Natalma. Knight also purchased a world record
weanling for the price of $22,000 in 1961 and resold the colt for a tidy profit
the following year at Saratoga. The weanling? Raise A Native.

Saluter made his mark in the four mile Virginia Gold Cup. The timber legend won six in
a row from 1994-1999 and was third in the 2000 running. Saluter was retired at the end
of 2000 (with a record 21 timber wins and another record $429,489 in timber earnings).
He also traveled to England three times to compete in the Marlborough Cup, the second
leg of the World Timber Championship, where he finished first, fell and finished third.
His lifetime earnings of $429,489 over jumps place him eighth on the American leading
steeplechase money-earners list, a feat unequalled by any other timber horse.
Saluter remains on trainer/jockey Jack Fisher's farm in Butler, Maryland.
